Fabric Artist

As a child, I would often design clothing in my sketchbooks. When I went to Bennington College, I jumped on the chance to take Intro to Costume Design and Costume Design Projects. Through those classes, as well as working in the costume shop, I gained sewing skills from garment dyeing to construction from patterns to basic mending of rips and holes.

During the pandemic in 2020, I pulled my basic sewing machine back out and recommitted to learning and finessing my skills. In 2022, I became a production assistant for Dragon Denim. We take USA manufactured denim jackets, deconstruct them, and replace panels with lace and mesh (see example).

In my own sewing practice, I create clothing to fit my body so I can feel confident in my shape. My aim is to feel my BEST as many clothing brands create generic shapes that often don’t fit a human’s natural curves or unique proportions. The desire to create clothing that works for me, instead of trying to fit myself into a pre-made box.

In 2023, I completed Confident Patternmaking and Grading with Victoria Werner to learn how to make patterns from scratch, and create a range of sizes. I always have space for customs so if you need something special made, please fill out this custom request form, or email me at best.madison@gmail.com
